10 June 2002 WritersPrintshopWritersServices has announced the launch of WritersPrintshop which turns the writer’s manuscript into a book using Print on Demand technology. Because copies are only printed in response to an order there is no risk of a garage full of unsold books. Writers can now publish their book and make it available to bookshops and online retailers such as Amazon alongside any other published book. Their book can be ordered through any bookshop and will be printed to order. 'It remains hard to get that first publication deal. Printing books is relatively straightforward. It is the marketing that is difficult and time-consuming. But the Internet has changed the rules. It makes it easier to promote the book and people can buy it online. As soon as a book is ordered WritersPrintshop not only distributes it but collects the revenue for the self-publishing author.' said Charles Jones, who will run WritersPrintshop. Self-publishing provides a writer with a low cost way to market-test their work. Print on Demand removes the need to invest in a stock of books and to sit by a phone waiting for orders to come in. Because the books are distributed through the major book distributors, the title will be available to most bookshops as well as through Amazon. 'WritersPrintshop is not going to challenge the big publishers, but it will appeal to specialist markets. Private publishing, for example, is a sizeable business as people produce memoirs, local histories or course books. Small batches of the title can be ordered so publication is no longer such a risky business.' 'Another virtue of WritersPrintshop is that the author can live anywhere in the world. Many serious enquires have come from Africa and the Indian subcontinent.' added Charles.
